12. Do you diagnose ADHD?
The short answer is sometimes. ADHD diagnoses are typically made during child or adolescent years. Occasionally, adults will seek treatment for ADHD for the first time. I recognize the significant impacts ADHD symptoms may have on patients and families. A diagnosis of ADHD is individualized and will be handled on a case-by-case basis. Frequently, collaborative information is required from family members, teachers, or other mental health professionals before an accurate diagnosis can be made. If a diagnosis is not clear during the initial assessment, referrals will be made to clarify your diagnosis. If you or your child has previously been diagnosed with ADHD, please provide a copy of the evaluation at our initial appointment.
13. What are your policies regarding controlled substances?
Controlled substances are highly regulated by the DEA due to their risk and abuse potential. These include anti-anxiety medications such as benzodiazepines (alprazolam, clonazepam, diazepam, lorazepam, etc.) and ADHD medications including stimulants (amphetamines, methylphenidate, etc.).
Controlled substance prescriptions are managed on a case-by-case basis. Stimulants are prescribed for appropriate patients at a maximum supply of 30 days per prescription. Refills must be requested from the provider 1 week prior to the end of your current prescription. Ohana Mental Health does not manage or prescribe pain medications.
